Since 2009, I’ve been working in the interior design industry. I’ve interned for a hospitality design company, worked in various furniture and fabric showrooms, and been an interior designer for a design-build firm. I decided to hang out my shingle and launch m studio interior design in 2015. And now I get to do what I love best: Design homes that are totally customized to the clients I work with!
Some spaces just have that effortless, feel-good vibe—the kind that makes you want to kick off your shoes, take a deep breath, and stay awhile. More often than not, it’s because they’ve found the perfect balance of nature and design.
This month, we’re all about creating naturally inviting homes—bringing the outdoors in and making your space feel fresh, cozy, and connected to nature. Can you guess what one of the best ways to do that might be? Incorporating greenery into your home!! Adding plants, using organic materials, and making smart design choices can actually improve the air quality inside your home while creating a peaceful, wellness-focused vibe.
Whether you have a green thumb or tend to forget to water your plants (no judgment and welcome to the club!), there are plenty of ways to add greenery and natural elements to your space. Let’s dive into some easy and stylish ways to bring a little more nature indoors!
Nothing transforms a space like a few well-placed plants. Not only do they look gorgeous, but they also work behind the scenes to purify the air, boost your mood, and create a more zen atmosphere… and I’m sure we can all use some of that these days, right!!
If you’re new to plants, start with some easy-care options like pothos, snake plants, or ZZ plants. These little guys are practically indestructible and thrive in all kinds of lighting conditions. If you’re ready to level up, try a statement plant like a fiddle-leaf fig or a monstera deliciosa to bring some drama (the good kind!) into your space.
Worried about upkeep? Try low-maintenance options like preserved moss walls or even high-quality faux plants. The goal is incorporating greenery into your home in a way that fits your lifestyle.

Plants aren’t the only way to bring the outdoors in. Natural elements in home design—like wood, stone, rattan, and linen—add depth and warmth to your space, making it feel effortlessly inviting.
Consider swapping out synthetic materials for organic ones. A wood coffee table, woven baskets, or stone countertops can instantly make a room feel more connected to nature. Try pairing plants with earthy textures, like a potted snake plant in a ceramic planter or fresh eucalyptus in a glass vase. These small choices help create a more grounded and balanced atmosphere.
And here’s the wellness bonus: Natural materials often contain fewer toxins and allergens than synthetic alternatives, which means better indoor air quality. This aligns perfectly with the WELL Concept of Materials, encouraging healthier design choices that support overall well-being.
Speaking of air quality, did you know that certain houseplants can literally clean the air inside your home? Plants like peace lilies, spider plants, and ferns act as natural air purifiers, removing toxins and increasing oxygen levels.
This is a game-changer if you’re thinking about incorporating greenery into your home for more than just aesthetics. Clean air isn’t just about what you don’t breathe in—it’s about filling your space with fresh, oxygen-rich air that makes your home feel lighter and more refreshing.
To maximize the benefits, place air-purifying plants in high-traffic areas like your living room or bedroom. And don’t forget to open your windows regularly to let in some fresh air—another simple way to embrace the WELL Concept of Air in your home design.
If you’re short on space (or just want to make a bold statement), vertical gardens are a dreamy way to bring more greenery into your home. Think lush plant walls, hanging planters, or even a shelving unit filled with cascading greenery.
For a natural, wellness-focused home, consider a moss wall or a vertical herb garden in your kitchen. Not only does it look amazing, but it also makes cooking more fun when you can snip fresh basil or mint straight from your own wall!
If maintaining a vertical garden sounds intimidating, don’t worry—there are plenty of ways to make it work for you. Try preserved moss (which requires zero maintenance) or a simple trellis with climbing plants like ivy or pothos. No matter your space, there’s always a way to get creative by incorporating greenery into your home.
At the end of the day, your home should reflect you. Maybe you love a lush jungle vibe with oversized tropical plants, or maybe you prefer just a few subtle touches of greenery. Whatever your style, bringing in nature should feel personal and effortless.
And if sustainability is on your mind (as it should be!), focus on eco-friendly choices. Opt for locally sourced plants, choose reclaimed wood furniture, and repurpose containers for your greenery. Small changes make a big impact—not just on the environment but on the energy and feel of your home.
At m studio interior design, we love helping our clients create homes that are naturally inviting and wellness-focused. Whether you want to add a few statement plants, upgrade to natural materials, or completely rethink your space with biophilic design, we’re here to help.
