Scandinavian-Inspired Earthy Loft Kitchen + Courtyard

Grounded Harbor Roots

< portfolio

Brought on mid-construction, m studio interior design stepped in to give this harbor-facing home its soul. With architectural bones already in place, the work began in the details that transform a structure into a sanctuary. While our clients had already secured their bathroom finishes, the scope encompassed the kitchen, courtyard spa, exterior facade, and interior entryway. These four spaces became the canvas for a cohesive design vision rooted in modern Scandinavian restrain.

At m studio, we believe that to Live Beautifully, Live Well™ is to inhabit spaces that honor both the way a home looks and the way it makes you feel. Every decision in this project, from the materials chosen to the details considered, was guided by that philosophy.

The exterior makes an immediate statement through studied simplicity. The roofline eaves extend in an unbroken sweep all the way to grade, anchoring the home to the earth with a sense of permanence. Inset wood-look aluminum cladding introduces warmth against the clean lines, while rhythmically spaced up/down sconces cast a deliberate interplay of light and shadow along the facade. A flush pivot door dissolves into the composition, minimal and intentional. The result is a facade that doesn't just impress from the street... it welcomes you home.

Inside, the entryway sets the tone through texture and depth. A curated series of exposed wood beams layers across what might have been a forgettable white wall, drawing the eye inward and signaling that every surface in this home has been considered. It is the first exhale of a home designed to restore as much as it inspires.

The courtyard spa is designed with the same serene calm it is meant to evoke. Textured, wood-looking porcelain tile grounds the space in organic warmth while remaining entirely at ease with the elements... a place that doesn't try too hard, and doesn't need to. Here, living well is as simple as stepping outside.

The kitchen is the heart of it all! Designed for a family that lives fully and entertains often, it earns its place through both beauty and function, because a well-designed kitchen is one of the most powerful wellness tools a home can offer. A large Galley Workstation Sink, generous storage, a dedicated walk-in pantry, and a GE Monogram induction cooktop speak to the rhythms of an active household. Panel-ready GE Monogram refrigeration columns integrate seamlessly into the cabinetry, keeping the aesthetic clean and uninterrupted. A concealed door opens to the home office, tucking the practical seamlessly behind the polished. Durable stone-looking luxury vinyl flooring was a natural choice for a home that lives this close to the water. Rich wood-toned finishes echo the vaulted wood-clad ceiling above, while a textured wood panel hood shroud anchors the space with architectural intention. Contrasting quartz countertops keep the palette grounded and crisp, neutral, low-maintenance, and quietly luminous. This is a kitchen that nourishes in every sense of the word.

Grounded Harbor Roots is a home that meets the water on its own terms... and a life lived beautifully, lived well.

Before and Afters

Busy Professional

I had no idea an interior designer could do as much as Megan did for us! I wish we had brought her in when our architect was planning our whole home remodel. Megan started working with us as a designer and project coordinator after our home was demoed. She asked such insightful questions about how we lived to make sure our home was the most efficient and comfortable. Details we never thought about. For example, she designed our Scandinavian-style kitchen to cater to our everyday and entertaining needs. Megan is so thoughtful and proactive. Throughout this whole renovation process, I felt like the passenger and she was the expert driver. We couldn’t have done this without her.
