Featured in San Diego Home & Garden magazine’s Kitchens of the Year 2017, casual yet elegantly transitional exemplifies this transformed Encinitas home.
Living a busy lifestyle involved in their son’s demanding school activities, the homeowners desired a family friendly, spacious kitchen area with ample storage and counter surface to make their home routines more efficient and to allow for more relaxed family gatherings.
By adding a minimal amount of square footage, the storage and counter space increased exponentially. Removing a dividing wall allowed for the kitchen to completely open into the adjacent living and dining room, presenting plenty of natural light to flow into the new kitchen space.
This also provided the opportunity to incorporate an elongated island joined with casual seating, offering much needed counter space for their son’s school work and for preparing and serving meals.
Easily accessible storage was accomplished by the addition of pullout trays in the pantry, cooktop storage and all the base cabinets. A separate station for storing mail, hanging keys, charging electronic devices and noting the son’s busy school and sports schedule was incorporated to increase desired efficiency and add value to this family’s daily bustle.
Megan transformed our kitchen from a poor layout, with limited counter and cabinet space, into a family friendly gathering area with a beautiful and innovative design.
Throughout the process Megan was responsive to our needs. She was very helpful in understanding the budget and setting a staged timeline. She provided options that helped keep within our budget while using high-quality products. The design choices and styling match our tastes and fit the home beautifully. I felt confident throughout this large remodel working with Megan. We have really enjoyed doing our project with Megan.
