Since 2009, I’ve been working in the interior design industry. I’ve interned for a hospitality design company, worked in various furniture and fabric showrooms, and been an interior designer for a design-build firm. I decided to hang out my shingle and launch m studio interior design in 2015. And now I get to do what I love best: Design homes that are totally customized to the clients I work with!
“I can’t wait to do laundry!” said no one ever. But what if we could change that narrative? Transforming the mundane chore of washing clothes into a delightful experience is all about thoughtful design.
Visualize with me- an under-utilized closet transforms into a chic, conveniently positioned laundry room. Tackling an angular space, we integrated full-size laundry equipment, a utility sink, a water bowl for the dogs, ample countertop space for folding, and a dedicated area for hanging clothes. Yes, it came with its challenges, but the result is nothing short of magical.
The journey of this laundry room began with a desire for a space that could seamlessly integrate into the rest of the home’s unique style of tasteful modern graphics and bold blues, while offering moments of cheerfulness in what would normally be considered a dreary space of washing clothes. With a commitment to continuing the home’s design aesthetic and implementing utilitarian functionality, we set out to transform the awkwardly angular space, that was previously an empty walk-in closet, into a place where doing laundry would suck a bit less.
The new cabinetry layout maximizes storage without compromising space or functionality. By placing the equipment along the longest wall, we created a generous surface area with short hanging space above. A stylish tower provides tall hanging space and incorporates a built-in water bowl for the dogs. Opposite, the utility sink enhances workflow, with plenty of room for folding, ironing, and all those little tasks that make laundry day smoother.
Maintaining the home’s aesthetic, we chose a serene palette of soft blues and whites, grounded by a geometric floor that adds a playful touch. The result? A laundry room that’s not only functional but also a joy to spend time in. Now, who’s ready to do some laundry?
