Since 2009, I’ve been working in the interior design industry. I’ve interned for a hospitality design company, worked in various furniture and fabric showrooms, and been an interior designer for a design-build firm. I decided to hang out my shingle and launch m studio interior design in 2015. And now I get to do what I love best: Design homes that are totally customized to the clients I work with!
When it comes to kitchen countertops, engineered quartz is a common pick. They’re manmade, easy to maintain and are typically produced in such a way that emulates natural stone. While most are quite lovely, they just can never compete with the look of a natural marble, quartzite, terrazzo or onyx. But after Designhounding at KBIS, I have been swooning over Compac Surfaces newest collection as they have given engineered quartz a much more meaningful appeal!
Meaningful how, you ask? Well, what if your counter surface could tell a story? True statement pieces, the Ice of Genesis collection features colors with incredible veining and movement that is not intended to mimic a natural stone, but embrace the lines produced by mother nature in one of the coldest places on earth.
Created by Arik Levy, Ice of Genesis was inspired by the frozen lakes from the North of Europe where water is icing vertically. It was beautifully shared that the ice patterns “exist, but don’t exist” offering a whole new perspective on this artistic look. The color ways of this collection were also thoughtfully curated after the different seasons experienced in this region of icy waters. The Ice Gold and Ice Ink are just some of my personal favorites from this collection. You have got to see this video to truly appreciate what I’ve just shared. Check it out here or see video below.
After I thought they’d already knocked my socks off, us Designhounds were introduced to another Arik Levy creation… the “QuartzRock”.
A seriously masterful piece of art, this sculpture was designed to be utilized as a kitchen island… no joke. A piece of art as your kitchen island, yes please!!! I’m just waiting for the right client. 😉
Compac Surfaces has my vote- all the wonderful benefits that come with a manmade quartz plus the exquisite visual appeal to enhance and upscale any design project.
Hope you’re feeling inspired friends! Aside from their Ice Genisis quartz collection, I’m very much looking forward to including their terrazzo in some upcoming design projects!! Til next time!
Xoxo, Megan
