Since 2009, I’ve been working in the interior design industry. I’ve interned for a hospitality design company, worked in various furniture and fabric showrooms, and been an interior designer for a design-build firm. I decided to hang out my shingle and launch m studio interior design in 2015. And now I get to do what I love best: Design homes that are totally customized to the clients I work with!
Hello Friends!! Let’s talk steam!
Adding a steam unit to your bathroom isn’t just a commodity, it’s something that every household deserves to have. Your mind & body will thank you! There are so many benefits to steaming from improving blood circulation to relieving sore muscles. Introducing steam into one’s everyday routine can truly transform a lifestyle to improve well-being in all areas of life- work, health, spiritual, mental, etc. PLUS, a major bonus for homeowners that I recently learned is that a home’s value, according to Zillow, could increase by up to 31% with mention of a steam shower! Talk about some serious profit potential!!
So what’s the deal with steam? After having the privilege to sit down with the pros of Mr. Steam, I learned a few fun facts that help to improve one’s overall health and well-being through steaming. As a perk of being a Designhound at this year’s Kitchen & Bath Show in Las Vegas, we were all treated to an experience at the Encore Spa… using their steam room, of course!
While I was in Vegas for 5 full days for a design convention (3 days longer than the maximum time frame one should be allowed), I was surrounded by clouds of nicotine smoke in the casinos and some of the driest desert weather. On day 4 of 5, my throat felt so dry, my neck and other muscles were aching and my feet were beyond sore. But thanks to our friends at Mr. Steam, a stop at the Encore Spa did the trick to help reset myself in time for one final day of KBIS 2023.
Since my body was in major need of a tune up, I physically felt a noticeable difference after coming out of the spa, specifically after coming out of the steam room and hopping in the cold plunge.
This may be an obvious point for those who frequent their local spas, but hopping into a steam room is such a great way to allow your body to sweat out toxins and rid your skin of dirt build up. It has the ability to magically open up your pores, making it easier to cleanse your skin of blackheads, etc.
Side Note: For me, this was so fantastic to hear because I’ve recently developed acne after going through the facemask phase! It’s wild to think that as an adult, I could get acne… but it’s real, especially after a year or so of covering my face with a mask. It’s also now a huge insecurity of mine as I’ve never seen my skin like this in years prior.
During the show, I was caking my face with so much foundation to cover the imperfections (and my tired, puffy eyes!). The addition of Mr. Steam’s Ta Clay pure Moroccan mud slathered all over my face was an added bonus to further cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate my skin while in the steam room. My cheeks felt so dewey and signs of inflammation and redness had significantly decreased!
Martha, aka “Mrs. Steam” shared a story about a chronic smoker who, after steaming for 45 minutes in a white t-shirt, came out with brown stains in the spots where her lungs were located. Crazy!!! But LET ME TELL YOU!!! After a full 4 days in smoke-filled, dry desert Vegas, I could absolutely feel the difference in my throat- the scratchiness had disappeared, the dryness felt non-existent and my inhale/ exhalations felt much deeper and fuller.
It was great to have that first hand experience after being surrounded by all the smoke (and all of the “wooing” that comes with the excitement of being in Vegas) and then stepping into the steam to experience the effects disappear. We learned that steam, as a tool to improve lung health, works wonders when you’re under the weather or have a cold or are congested. In fact, doctors recommend for parents to steam up their bathrooms (aka, run hot water in a closed shower) when their kids are sick or get croup.
This was my all time favorite benefit from our spa day. It’s one of those things where ‘while you’re learning something new you’re watching out for it’… kind of thing. Again, 4 full days of convention bouncing… my whole body was achy. Having been through plenty of accidents in my lifetime, my neck is constantly feeling tense and my back has its moments of muscle spasms. After the steam room, I was shrugging my shoulders and turning my neck with a smile and such relief. I felt so loosey goosey AND my feet were very happy.
It’s pretty obvious that I’m a Mr. Steam fan! Benefits of steaming aside, what Mr. Steam does particularly well from a designer standpoint are the product options to tie in seamlessly with custom bath designs. They have thought of everything from the aesthetics and finishes of the controls to the shapes of the steam components.
Hope you’re feeling inspired friends! I know I am and not only am I excited to share the gift of steam in every bathroom I design, but I cannot wait to have one of these bad boys in my own home one day!!!
Thank you again Mr. Steam, Modenus Media & Designhounds for an unforgettable spa experience!!!
Xoxo, Megan
