Since 2009, I’ve been working in the interior design industry. I’ve interned for a hospitality design company, worked in various furniture and fabric showrooms, and been an interior designer for a design-build firm. I decided to hang out my shingle and launch m studio interior design in 2015. And now I get to do what I love best: Design homes that are totally customized to the clients I work with!
Hello friends!
To be awarded anything in life is always such an amazing moment. Aside from cheer competitions, I never won much academically in my earlier years in school. I was constantly coming home with mediocre grades, dissatisfied with all my classes and, quite honestly, did not walk down that carpet with my graduating class in high school. Then, I got my act together and enrolled into design school.
I remember my first recognition as a design student attending San Diego Mesa College. I was acknowledged for one of my hand-drawn perspectives of a living room. My mom was there, I felt so accomplished knowing that I had actually won something… and my mom could be proud of me.
Flash forward to the present day… As an interior designer and small business owner, it’s an incredible honor to be recognized for projects that we’ve contributed to and are now a part of our clients’ everyday lives.
Design organizations such as ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) and NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association) will host a Design Gala either annually or every other year to acknowledge interior designers for their work and standards in design excellence. The judges are different with each competition, but are typically compiled of highly esteemed designers and/or industry professionals from a sister chapter organization in another part of the country to ensure there is no bias.
The criteria for judging would include items such as creativity, presentation, design planning, design elements, use of industry guidelines and safety & ergonomics. What’s wonderful for the judges is that since all projects are reviewed anonymously, they get to truly experience each design for what it is, purely based on a project description that captures the design solutions and overall execution.
This year, we entered a few local competitions hosted in Southern California. The competition was fierce, and there were SO MANY gorgeous, incredible projects that were completed these last few years. I’m ecstatic to be amongst so many truly talented interior designers who had the honor of being awarded this season! It is with such delight for me to share with you all some of our wins from 2022!
This powder bath that we completed in the Del Mar area of North County San Diego, California received an Honorable Mention at this year’s ASID San Diego Design Excellence Awards at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park.
What made this charming powder bath so special for us was that our client Mary was just as excited and willing to go slightly outside her comfort zone with a beautifully bold color! While the inspiration came directly from her own artwork that now thrives in the space, the result is just stunning!

The great room turned bar that we helped to design is located in La Jolla, California. This bar was awarded the Silver Award for Special Space at this year’s ASID Orange County Design Gala at the Lido House in Newport Beach.
Janelle & Jan’s great taste in art is what sparked the design concept that you now see here. I had so much fun creating a more moody and sophisticated palette, and am thrilled to know it’s getting very good use by their friends and family! It has become a major focal point as you walk in their door and blends seamlessly with the rest of the home. Love every detail!

Not only was this remodeled home in Encinitas, California recently published in the Union Tribune, but it was recognized for various spaces throughout the home including Winner for Primary bath, 3rd Place for Secondary Bath, and Winner for Kitchen Design at the NKBA SoCal Design Gala at the Irvine Marriott! PLUS 1st Place for Residential Design under 3,500sf at the ASID San Diego Design Excellence Awards at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park.
There’s so much to be said about this project- from the spectacular family that I had the privilege of collaborating with to the fun and unique furniture pieces that were curated! Every room in this home is considered a beautiful moment that Di, Anthony, Boyd, Hudson & fur friends Millie & Norris will love and cherish!

I am filled with gratitude and truly honored and humbled to have received these accolades this last year! But here are the real winners-
A big congratulations to the homeowners who get to dwell in and come home to these award-winning spaces! A special thank you to ALL of the builders, trades and craftsmen involved in every single one of these projects. Without them none of these stunning designs would have been made possible. And of course, a very big thank you to our photographer Natalia Roberts of Natalia Roberts Photography for the talented eye in capturing everything so beautifully.
With Immense Gratitude,
Megan
